LOS ANGELES, June 11, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today the appointment of Robert P. Iorizzo as president of the company's Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3), effective immediately.
Mr. Iorizzo succeeds James G. Roche, who was recently confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Secretary of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Iorizzo, a 39-year veteran of the company, has served since 1997 as vice president and general manager of the sector's Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Naval Systems (C3I&N) Division.
"Bob has helped shape the sector's strategic vision and successfully managed numerous operating business units involving many of the company's most important programs," said Kent Kresa, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Northrop Grumman. "His management experience ranges across the spectrum -- from F-16 radar and space to Navy avionics and electro-optical programs. Bob's skills, experience and leadership will ensure that ES3 continues to grow as a world-class defense electronics powerhouse serving domestic and international customers."
Mr. Iorizzo, 61, heads a sector that has expanded as a result of Northrop Grumman's acquisition of Litton Industries Inc. Following the acquisition in April, Northrop Grumman integrated Litton's $1.6 billion advanced electronics businesses into ES3, creating the company's largest sector with expected 2001 revenues of $4.5 billion, 23,000 employees and operations in 18 states, eight countries and Puerto Rico.
In his prior assignment as head of the C3I&N Division, Mr. Iorizzo managed a variety of Northrop Grumman businesses including oceanic and naval systems, marine systems and communications systems. He was also responsible for the international air defense business and the domestic and international air traffic control systems business.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from St. Johns University, holds two patents in the field of laser techniques, and has published a number of technical articles.
