Northrop Grumman Part of Two Winning Teams for U.S. Air Force Sustainment Contract

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 10, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Information Technology sector announced today that its TASC unit is on two of the four winning teams for the $7.4 billion U.S. Air Force Flexible Acquisition and Sustainment Tool (FAST) contract. TASC is a subcontractor on prime contracts led by The Boeing Company of Chicago, Ill., and Modern Technologies Corporation (MTC) of Dayton, Ohio.

The Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (ALC) in Georgia awarded six contracts under the seven-year FAST program with each contract valued at more than $1 billion. TASC estimates its potential revenues at $125 million over the seven years.

The FAST program will consolidate a wide range of Air Force purchases for aircraft and weapons parts and services at the Warner Robins ALC and the Air Force's two other depots in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ogden, Utah.

"This program is another important win for our growing sustainment engineering business," said James H. Frey, TASC president. "Teamed with Boeing and MTC, TASC will continue to provide the quality engineering services and solutions the Air Force needs to keep aircraft flying and costs down."

Air Force officials estimate the program will save upwards of $100 million in annual fees currently spent to acquire services and parts through the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and government agencies.

Under FAST, TASC will design, prototype, integrate and test replacement units that resolve obsolete part problems associated with aging electronic, mechanical and structural systems. FAST will also enable TASC and other contractors to bring sustainment solutions to the field more quickly than before.

TASC has supported the Air Logistics Centers for more than 25 years. The company's "smarter sustainment solutions" have helped the Air Force maintain flight readiness for B-1, B-2, C/KC-135, C-5, C-141 and E-3 AWACS aircraft.

TASC's Warner Robins operation focuses on the reverse engineering and redesign of aging avionics and electronic warfare items. Over the next year, the office expects to double in size as a result of the FAST program to more than 30 employees.
