Neoware Elected by London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Dec. 17, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services and solutions for the emerging Appliance Computing market, today announced that London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF), one of 33 boroughs in London, has standardized on Neoware thin client appliances. LBHF has deployed more than 1,000 Neoware appliances to local government offices in the first phase of a multi-phase deployment.

LBHF provides educational, environmental, housing and social services for the borough, which consists of a diverse population of 157,000 people. Located in London, this local government services approximately 100 government offices within the borough.

LBHF needed to replace personal computers and green-screen terminals and required access to specific Windows-based software applications. LBHF uses several Microsoft applications, which run on servers using Microsoft's Windows Terminal Services and Citrix(r) MetaFrame(r). In deploying the new system, LBHF needed to integrate their current Windows-based and legacy operating systems, the Internet, email and desktop applications. Neoware's thin client appliances allow LBHF to use all of their existing systems, have an integrated Internet browser and email, and eliminate the need for desktop visits to deploy applications, significantly lowering total cost of ownership.

LBHF had experienced obsolescence problems with personal computers and green-screens, and needed a new solution that would not need to be replaced in a few years. Because Neoware's thin client appliance family supports multiple operating systems including Windows CE, Windows NTe, Windows XPe and Linux, LBHF has the ability to change operating systems easily, should their needs change. An important factor in LBHF's decision to deploy Neoware was the overall reliability of the Neoware appliances, which have no fan, hard disk or other moving parts that can fail, making them an attractive alternative to personal computers. Neoware's products are virtually maintenance free, are simple to manage, and install in minutes, making Neoware thin client appliances a very cost-effective solution.

Because LBHF supports approximately 100 government offices spread throughout the borough, remote administration was a critical factor in their choice of thin client appliances. Neoware's ezRemote Manager, an enterprise-class suite of management tools, allows LBHF to drive down their administration costs by enabling them to remotely discover, configure, update and manage thousands of thin client appliances across their network, without traveling from desk to desk.

"Neoware provided us with an extremely flexible solution to suit our needs. Everything we envisioned, they achieved," stated Mike Burton, Technical Services Manager for London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. "We believe in thin client appliance computing because it lets us run all of our applications on servers, with greater security, and at much lower total cost than with personal computers. We plan on working closely with Neoware in the future to accomplish more of our goals."
