Singapore Airlines And Qantas Airways Ltd. Select Northrop Grumman's LTN-101 Inertial Reference System

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Jan. 9, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division today announced orders for its LTN-101 FLAGSHIP™ Inertial Reference System from two international airlines.

Qantas Airways Ltd. of Australia has placed orders for triple LTN-101 systems for its 13 new Airbus A-300 aircraft, with deliveries beginning in 2002.

Singapore Airlines has placed orders with Northrop Grumman for triple LTN-101 systems for its five new A340-500 aircraft, with options for five additional aircraft.

Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

The FLAGSHIP system contains the latest zero lock gyro (ZLG) technology. The LTN-101 air data inertial reference unit uses three laser ZLGs in a single housing. Undithered and 40 percent smaller than conventional ring laser gyros, the Four-mode Laser Gyro provides high accuracy, high reliability and reduced costs.

"Our patented Autonomous Integrity Monitored Extrapolation (AIME™) technology is resident in the FLAGSHIP system," noted George Perkins, manager, Technical Support, at Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division. "AIME allows the Northrop Grumman system to meet all four navigation system performance requirements - accuracy, integrity, availability and continuity of service - all necessary for a sole means of navigation certification."

Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division, based in Woodland Hills, is a full-line navigation system supplier, providing inertial, GPS and fiber optic gyro vertical gyro/directional gyro replacement systems to commercial airlines, government and business aviation customers around the world.
