Nokia delivers mobile positioning solution to ONE in Austria


Nokia has signed a contract with Austrian operator ONE to supply its mobile positioning solution, Nokia mPosition. The system will bring next generation Location-based services to ONE's mobile subscribers.

With new Location Based Services, mobile subscribers can access a range of new, exciting services, relevant to their location. In the near future ONE customers will have the opportunity to get information about shops and special offers, relevant to their location, on their mobile device.

Under the agreement, Nokia has supplied the Nokia mPosition solution, including Serving Mobile Location Center (SMLC), Nokia Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC), servers and installation. Delivers have started and the system is expected to be operational during second quarter 2002.

In October 1998, the communications company ONE launched Austria's only nationwide GSM-1800 mobile telephony network. At the end of 2001, ONE had about 1,600 employees and more than 1.6 million customers (1.35 million mobile, 140,000 fixed line and 139,000 Internet). Net turnover in 2001 amounted to EUR 574.12 million/ATS 7.9 billion. ONE has a population coverage of 97%. ONE is the only mobile telephony operator to offer GPRS and HSCSD (ONE High Speed) in Austria. To date ONE has invested EUR 1.55 billion/ATS 21.3 billion in Austria, EUR 240.00 million/ATS 3.3 billion in the year 2001.
