VAISALA HAS RECEIVED ITS LARGEST EVER AIRPORT METEOROLOGICAL SYSTEM ORDER

The Vaisala Group has won a significant contract to supply, commission and maintain an automated airport weather observation solution for a long-standing customer. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 7 million. The deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2003. The included maintenance contract will be valid for four years.

"This order is significant for Vaisala, since it is the largest
contract we have ever received in the airport system business. This is also the first contract we have signed including such a comprehensive maintenance arrangement," states Pekka Ketonen, CEO and President of Vaisala.

The solution includes an automated weather observation system and a sounding system including radiosondes for two years' usage. The systems will provide vital weather information for air traffic controllers, pilots and other experts.

The automated weather observation system collects, validates, processes, stores and visually presents data generated by a variety of meteorological sensors. The sounding system provides data on upper-air temperature, humidity, pressure, ozone concentration, wind speed and
direction.
