Hong Kong CSL chooses Nokia's MMS solution to launch Asia's first multimedia messaging service

Asia's first multimedia messaging service (MMS), recently launched by Hong Kong CSL Limited, has been implemented with the Nokia MMS solution, under an agreement signed earlier this year. In addition, Nokia is working closely with CSL to bring exciting MMS applications to CSL's customers with the support of Nokia's Service Creation Center in Hong Kong.

Nokia's state-of-the-art MMS solution, strengthened with active service innovation, will help CSL to provide innovative services to its customers, allowing them to send and receive messages combining text, images, graphics, sound and ultimately video, in a single rich message.

Under the agreement, Nokia has provided its MMS solution, including the Nokia Multimedia Messaging Center (MMSC), the Nokia Terminal Gateway, and the Nokia Terminal Management Server to CSL. In addition, CSL multimedia messaging makes use of the Nokia WAP Gateway, previously supplied by Nokia. As part of the agreement, Nokia will also provide implementation, integration and maintenance services.

Nokia and CSL worked closely together to deliver a sneak-preview of MMS to the Hong Kong market in November 2001, with a demonstration of the service at the "Colours of Life" event held by Nokia. Now this cooperation has been extended to bring about the full-fledged commercial launch of CSL's MMS service. Commercial MMS services available include person-to-person MMS, which is a greatly enriched version of SMS with the capability of sending photographs, pictures and voice or sounds together with text messages. Also available is a range of content-download services allowing users to deliver ready-made color postcard type of messages to friends with their favorite pictures or animated cartoons.
