STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 18, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Tele2 AB announces award of two GSM licenses in St Petersburg

New York and Stockholm - Tele2 AB, ("Tele2"), (Nasdaq: TLTOA) (Nasdaq:TLTOB) (Stockholmsborsen: TEL2A and TEL2B), the leading alternative pan-European telcommunications company, today announces the award of two licenses to develop GSM 1800 wireless telephony in the city of St Petersburg and its surrounding area.

Tele2 acquired FORA Telecom B.V, the Russian mobile operator, from MIC in the fourth quarter of 2001 and following this award, Tele2 now has 12 GSM licenses in Russia.

This award creates an exciting opportunity for Tele2 to replicate in Russia its success in building mobile businesses in the Baltic States.

The licenses are valid for a period of ten years and Tele2 expects to offer GSM services in the St Petersburg area by the end of 2002.
