HP and Nokia Deliver An Integrated Service Quality Assurance Solution for Mobile Operators and Service Providers

TELEMANAGEMENT WORLD, Nice, France, May 13, 2002 -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the integrated service quality assurance solution for service providers, a solution designed to provide integrated service management of telco and IT environments.

The solution combines the strength of HP and Nokia technologies, software and consulting services. It leverages Nokia NetAct(TM) Framework, a centralized operation support system for mobile telecom management, and the innovative HP Integrated Service Management (ISM) solution, which is based on the HP OpenView services management product suite. The solution offers service providers a single view over voice and data infrastructures, enabling a substantial reduction in operational costs and an increase in service quality and customer satisfaction.

As service providers evolve their networks from 2G to 3G systems, a comprehensive solution is critical to manage those converging environments. The HP/Nokia solution enables service providers to transition more quickly from network to service management and from managing only voice services to managing voice and data services together. Combined with HP's consulting services, the companies offer a leading solution for service providers.

"Nokia is strongly committed to delivering cost-saving network management systems and tools," said Jorma Häkkinen, Vice President, Nokia Networks. "By moving from traditional 2G network management to packet-core and 3G systems, the convergence of traditional network management and IP/IT network management will become a reality. Nokia believes that this joint solution with HP combines the best expertise of the two companies and meets the challenges of a converging management environment for the benefit of our customers."

As the next evolution of the successful NetAct(TM) Framework and market leading HP OpenView products, the systems together monitor, control and report the health of services and infrastructure across various boundaries. The result is the ability to maintain functions across all layers of the service environment-including the network, systems, applications, service and the Internet. The solution can be delivered with default service-level indicators, which can be amended to suit operators' individual requirements.

Radiolinja, a Finnish mobile operator, has established a single organization for IT and telecommunications operations called Radiolinja Aava, which is working closely with HP and Nokia. "From the beginning we have been strongly developing tools and operational processes that support our integrated services," said Jarmo Jätyri, CEO, Radiolinja Aava. "We are delighted to see market leaders from the IT and telco worlds coming together to provide a solution that supports our vision."

"Next generation mobile service providers will excel by providing the best total customer experience," said Michele Campriani, worldwide marketing manager, HP Network and Service Provider Organization. "HP and Nokia have combined their respective knowledge of mobility and IT/IP infrastructure into a solution that will give mobile service providers a higher level of confidence and ability to deliver services that meet customer quality expectations."

HP and Nokia customers and partners will be on hand at HP's booth (No. 25) and Nokia's booth (No. 80) at TeleManagement World in Nice, France, May 13-16, 2002, where the two companies will demonstrate the jointly developed ISQA solution.
