Gripen Displayed at the Airshow in Graz


LINKOPING, Sweden, May 14, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- In connection with the procurement of new fighter aircraft by the Austrian Federal Government, a presentation by the Austrian Army is being held today, 14 May 2002, at the Graz / Thalerhof Airport in Austria.

The event provides information about the requirements of airspace surveillance in general and offers a unique opportunity to have a first- hand look at Gripen that is one of the candidates in the selection process for the new acquisition.

For this occasion, a Gripen -- which Gripen International is offering toAustria as a potential Draken successor -- is being specially flown toGraz.

Gripen was designed to meet the demands of all current and futurethreats, while at the same time meeting strict peace-time requirements for flight safety, reliability, training efficiency and low operating costs.

Gripen International is a company in which Saab AB of Sweden and the United Kingdom's BAE SYSTEMS have equal shares.

Gripen is already in service with the Swedish Air Force, which has ordered 204 aircraft (including 28 two-seaters). In addition to South Africa (28 aircraft) the Air Forces of Hungary and Czech Republic have selected Gripen.
