METSO INTENDS TO CLOSE ITS CONVEYOR BELT PRODUCTION UNIT IN HAMBURG, GERMANY

Metso Minerals, the rock and mineral processing business area of Metso Corporation, streamlines its operations and intends to close down the conveyor belt production unit in Hamburg, Germany. The unit employs 95 persons and its net sales were EUR 11 million in 2001.

The closing has no effect on Metso Minerals' customer service. The customers will be supplied similar products from Metso Minerals' conveyor belt manufacturing units in Finland, Norway, Germany and Belgium. The closing decision is based on financial losses and oversupply in conveyor belt markets.

Svedala Scholtz Transportbandtechnik GmbH was transferred to Metso Minerals through the acquisition of Svedala Industri AB in September 2001.
