Jaakko Pöyry Group appointed main engineering consultant for the recovery line at UPM-Kymmene's Pietarsaari pulp mill

Jaakko Pöyry Oy and JP-Kakko Oy, which are part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group’s Forest Industry business group, have been commissioned to provide engineering services for the new recovery line being built by UPM-Kymmene Oyj’s Wisaforest pulp mill at Pietarsaari, Finland. The total contract value is about EUR 8 million.

Scheduled to start at the beginning of June 2002, the engineering services are a continuation of engineering work done in the project’s preparatory phase. Services include plant and structural engineering, project co-ordination and start-up assistance. The project also includes services for organizing document management between different parties in the project.

UPM-Kymmene’s investment project includes a new evaporation plant, tall oil plant, recovery boiler, turbogenerator, causticising department, lime kiln and tie-ins with existing mill departments. Following completion of this investment project, the pulp mill’s production capacity will increase to about 800 000 tons a year. The new recovery line will be started up in the second quarter of 2004.

The new assignment stems from UPM-Kymmene’s and Jaakko Pöyry’s longstanding co-operation in the implementation of industrial investment projects.

The Forest Industry business group, operating under the brand name Jaakko Pöyry, had net sales of EUR 150 million in 2001. Jaakko Pöyry has offices in 14 countries and employs some 1800 experts worldwide.
