Nokia will launch a promotional campaign around the theatrical release of Minority Report featuring the Nokia 7650 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific, and the Nokia 9290 Communicator in the Americas. Minority Report, from Twentieth Century Fox and DreamWorks Pictures, is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Cruise.
This futuristic thriller is based on Philip K. Dick's short story set in a futuristic judicial system where murderers are arrested and convicted before they commit crimes. Tom Cruise plays Lieutenant John Anderton, head of this 'pre-crime' unit, who finds himself accused of a murder he hasn't yet committed. The film is set in Washington, D.C. in the year 2054. Minority Report will be released in the USA on the 21st of June 2002.
The head of Nokia Design, Frank Nuovo, has designed futuristic communication device concepts exclusively for Minority Report. "Even though our daily work is to design the future of communication devices, this film provided an exciting opportunity to look even further into the future and imagine how people could communicate in 2054. But even today’s Nokia phone users can ‘connect to the future’ by using our technologically advanced, user friendly mobile terminals," said Frank Nuovo, Chief Designer, Nokia Design.
Minority Report themed digital services will be available from Club Nokia, Nokia’s online community and loyalty program (www.club.nokia.com), in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific. The digital services include standard and polyphonic ring tones, as well as still and animated graphics (phone logos, picture messages, animated screensavers).
