Neoware Continues to Lead in Healthcare

Mobile Medical Industries Chooses Neoware's Capio Thin Client Appliances and ezRemote Manger Software

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., June 19, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services, and solutions for the Appliance Computing market, today announced that Mobile Medical Industries (MMI), one of Florida's largest home healthcare providers, has selected Neoware Capio thin client appliances and ezRemote Manager software as an integral part of its server-based thin client appliance solution.

MMI and its three divisions -- MD to You, CareAdvantage, and CareGivers -- offer complete home care services featuring physician house calls and a full range of nursing services including RNs, LPNs, home health aides, medical social workers, and therapists. Created to help older Floridians maintain their independence, MMI is one of the first providers to offer such comprehensive in-home services for individuals who have difficulty seeking medical care due to transportation issues and physical limitations. With the upward spiraling costs of hospital and long term care, MMI offers its clients the dignity, privacy, convenience, and cost savings of receiving medical care at home.

With the tightening of the medical care reimbursement structure, the healthcare industry as a whole has had to reassess spending. Prior to this, MMI had been looking to replace PCs and expand the number of desktops with a server-based thin client appliance solution. The cost-savings of a thin client solution became even more important as a result of the reduced funding that the industry is experiencing.

The three divisions of MMI function from nine locations in Florida and require access to a variety of systems including Microsoft Office, the Great Plains eEnterprise accounting package, and programs pertaining to Medicare and the medical industry. Maintained by a two person staff, the IT system connects these remote facilities and over 265 users via Citrix(r) running on the server farm. To accommodate growth and save time and money administering its network, MMI needed an easy to configure, cost-saving solution, providing remote administration and requiring minimal maintenance.

MMI standardized on Neoware's Capio thin client appliances after evaluating thin client appliances from a number of vendors. Neoware's Capio products are simple to install and easy to use, manage, and upgrade, requiring no special configuration at the server. Neoware's thin client appliances enable users within MMI's multiple facilities to connect to servers via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(r)) protocol, and VT terminal emulation, with an industry-standard embedded operating system that provides access to the latest applications.

With Neoware thin client appliances and ezRemote Manager software, MMI is administering devices and deploying applications without traveling to remote locations, saving both time and money updating and maintaining its network. Neoware's ezRemote Manager is a powerful enterprise class suite of management software with an intuitive point-and-click interface that makes managing thousands of appliances as easy as managing one. This ability to retain centralized management control via remote administration was a key part of MMI's selection of a server-based thin client appliance solution.

The ease involved in configuring the thin client appliances enables MMI to drop-ship units to new locations and have them up and running in minutes. Since there are no hard drives or moving parts that could break, and users are unable to add or delete programs, user productivity and network security increases. Additionally, the Capio comes equipped with a USB port should there be a need for peripherals such as floppy, CD-ROM, or Zip drives in the future.

"It's amazing, the more things change the more they stay the same," stated Edward Etchells, Jr., Director of MIS/Purchasing for Mobile Medical Industries. "The systems we had years ago have come full circle, but are much better today, with thin client appliances now replacing the PCs that had originally replaced dumb terminals. Neoware is offering us exceptional value as we continue to grow as an organization, looking at other lines of business and new markets. We are confident that Neoware is the right partner for MMI as we continue to grow."
