Ossur Kristinsson honored in week of NBC Conference

Ossur Kristinsson, ICEROSS inventor and the company founder, has been awarded Iceland's greatest honor in recognition of his contribution to innovation and entrepreneurialism. A pioneer of silicone technology, Ossur Kristinsson is himself a prosthetist and a prosthetic user.

The 'Falkaordan', or the Knight's Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon, is traditionally presented by the President on June 17, National Day in Iceland. In this same week, the city of Reykjavik played host to the Nordic Baltic Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics.

This field has witnessed rapid evolution and the conference explored aspects of the new knowledge, methods and instruments involved in dealing with the ever-increasing complexity of issues concerning human health. Delegates from over 20 countries attended the forum, many of whom were presenting new research papers.

A key speaker was Dr Hugh Herr, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He presented recent developments concerning the "Patient-adaptive prosthetic and orthotic leg system", a system that features the 'Rheo' knee, one of Ossur's current development projects.

A post-conference publication is available, which includes much of the research presented. More information and contact details can be found at the conference website.
