Nokia and Euro RSCG Worldwide win Gold Lion Direct for Nokia Game at 2002 International Advertising Festival in Cannes

New York, US and Helsinki, Finland, June 24, 2002 — Nokia and Euro RSCG Worldwide have won a Gold Lion Direct for their Nokia Game campaign, developed by Euro RSCG Netherlands, at the 2002 International Advertising Festival in Cannes. The competition is a global showcase of the most creative and innovative direct marketing solutions. Nokia Game has already received twelve national and international Awards up to date.

Nokia Game is an all-media adventure game in which players take on the role of the story’s main character. Information, clues, and tasks are delivered through a variety of different media. Short TV movies, text messages, websites, radio announcements, newspaper and magazine ads, and interactive voice response systems all play a part in guiding players through the adventure.

Nokia Game was open to all mobile phone users, not just Nokia customers. In 2001, in its third year running, 600,000 players in 28 countries throughout Europe and the Middle East participated in the game. Designed as a brand-building campaign that brings to life Nokia's tagline of “Connecting People,” Nokia Game 2001 became a platform for launching new products and services, including picture messages and ringtones, thousands of which were downloaded to mobile phones during the game.

Pekka Rantala, Vice President Marketing Services, Nokia added, "A team of more than 250 people from Nokia, Euro RSCG, and a host of partners all over Europe were dedicated to simultaneously delivering 600,000 players an adventure in their own language. It was a major marketing activity reflecting the innovation power of the entire team. The best part was that players joined forces in trying to foresee the next step in the adventure That’s what Connecting People is all about."

Chris Middeldorp, Managing Director of Benjamens van Doorn Euro RSCG, commented, "Nokia had the guts and vision to organize an all-media adventure that broke through the boundaries of traditional advertising, interactive media, and marketing services. I think they showed the world that entertainment and experience can yield serious results, regardless of the media through which you deliver.”
