Acquisition of Addiment to strengthen the market position in Europe

The company Sika AG, Baar, Switzerland, one of the world’s leading suppliers of specialist chemical products for construction and industry, is buying the Addiment Division of Heidelberger Bauchemie from HeidelbergCement, which has operations in Germany, Poland, Rumania and Turkey, as well as agents in many other countries. The purchase agreement was signed on 26 June 2002. The position of Addiment’s approximately 200-strong workforce will not be affected by the take-over. The production facilities in Leimen will remain operational.

For over 25 years, Addiment has been a key player in the field of advanced concrete and mortar technology. Its range of products includes, inter alia, high-quality concrete additives and special dry mortars. In the year 2001, the consolidated sales of the Addiment Group totalled approximately EUR 40 million or CHF 58 million respectively.

By acquiring Addiment, Sika is strengthening its market position in the European concrete additive sector. For HeidelbergCement, the sale will enable it to focus more strongly on its core cement and concrete business. In addition, the two partners have agreed to co-operate closely in the field of research and development, as well as with respect to distribution activities.
