ASM Collaborates with Accurel to Open Independent SIMS Laboratory


BILTHOVEN, The Netherlands - August 1, 2001 -ASM International N.V. (Nasdaq: ASMI and Euronext Stock Exchange in Amsterdam: ASM) today announced that its subsidiary, ASM America, Inc., will collaborate with Accurel Systems International, the leading provider of advanced surface, materials and failure analysis services, to open a Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) laboratory on ASM's Phoenix, Arizona campus.
Accurel will provide on-site advanced SIMS support for the development of ASM's Epsilon® reactor, and support for customer product demonstrations.  The SIMS laboratory is designed and equipped to meet the analytical needs of ASM's Epsilon customer base, and being located at ASM's Phoenix facility, ensures a quick response to customer analytical issues.
Accurel brings a wealth of experience and is the worldwide leader in analytical analysis of SiGe. Accurel has proprietary applications that are critical to the accurate analysis of SiGe and the challenges faced by analyzing advanced materials.
ASM is the leading supplier of single-wafer epitaxial tools and related semiconductor process equipment. The company has built and sold epitaxial reactors since 1987 and its Epsilon reactors are used in mass production by major semiconductor device manufacturers and wafer suppliers worldwide.
