Jaakko Pöyry Group awarded EUR 3.1 million power plant operation and maintenance contract in the Philippines

Electrowatt-Ekono Philippines, Inc., which is part of the Jaakko Pöyry Group’s Energy business group, has been awarded an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract by Lafarge Cement Services Inc., the Philippine subsidiary of Lafarge Cement, France. The value of the contract amounts to EUR 3.1 million.

The contract consists of the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of three power generation units of a 28 MW diesel power plant. The power plant is situated east of Manila, at the FR Cement Factory owned by Lafarge. The contract period is initially for three years. The contract includes a provision to expand Electrowatt-Ekono’s scope of services to cover the plant’s remaining four power generation units (16 MW) by the end of this year.

After its acquisition of Blue Circle (UK) last year, Lafarge is the largest cement producer in the world and also the largest cement producer in the Philippines.

Electrowatt-Ekono’s strategy is to expand its O&M services for power plants, with a focus on partnerships with multi-national industrial companies. This contract is the business group’s third private-sector O&M contract in the Philippines, increasing Electrowatt-Ekono’s O&M portfolio in the country to 35 MW.

The Energy business group, operating under the brand name Electrowatt-Ekono, had net sales of EUR 127 million in 2001. Electrowatt-Ekono has offices in 20 countries and employs 1200 experts worldwide.
