KPN Mobile to offer i-mode(TM) content through the Nokia 3650 mobile phone

The new Nokia 3650 is the first handset from Nokia that will give access to KPN Mobile's i-mode content. With a large colour display, built in camera and Java(TM) capability, the Nokia 3650 will support the latest i-mode content innovations and provide a superior mobile content experience. KPN Mobile's customers in Germany (E-Plus) will be the first to be able to access i-mode content via the Nokia 3650 starting next month, followed by customers in the Netherlands and Belgium. Further open standards based models from Nokia, introduced during 2003, will also be offered to KPN Mobile's customers.

"Nokia is pleased to see that i-mode content is now available on open standards through XHTML browser in GSM/GPRS networks. As a result of our cooperation, Nokia and KPN Mobile are now able to offer a standard version of the Nokia 3650 for the KPN Mobile group's i-mode content," said Heikki Norta, Vice President, Europe and Africa, Nokia Mobile Phones. "The Nokia 3650 shows the advantages of open standards in building compelling services for today's demanding mobile customers. By using the XHTML browser with cascading style sheets, Java technology and MMS, operators are now able to provide good quality user experience and optimize the cost of their service deployment. In the long run, this will translate into the widest variety of available terminals as well as the most attractive cost structure. This is also good news for content creators, who can now offer their content to the widest possible market."

The Series 60 Platform used in the Nokia 3650 also offers extensive opportunities for personalization and customization. KPN Mobile will be able to offer customers i-mode content while maintaining the benefits of a standards based phone platform.

KPN Mobile Board member Mark de Jong: "We are very happy that our customers will be able to browse i-mode content with handsets from Nokia, our first European supplier. This breakthrough will contribute substantially to the growing success of i-mode. Standard technologies, together with the Nokia brand, will strengthen the belief of our content partners and customers in i-mode, which will help us accelerate the deployment of mobile data services."
