Nokia brings a new level of mobility to the fixed environment

Nokia today announced the Nokia 32 PBX connectivity terminal, a GSM terminal that can be connected to a private branch exchange (PBX) to route incoming and outgoing calls via GSM networks, thus providing a cost effective alternative for fixed-to-mobile or mobile-to-fixed calls.  The Nokia 32 can also act as a substitute for a fixed telephone line, providing the opportunity to replace current fixed lines or to establish new lines quickly for a minimal investment. Operating in the GSM 850/1900 or the GSM 900/1800 bands, the Nokia 32 is planned to be available in the second quarter, 2003.

"Companies are continually looking for ways in which to reduce their expenses, which is especially true when we look at communication costs. Calls between landline telephones and mobile phones are usually more expensive than mobile-to-mobile calls. With a minimal investment, the Nokia 32 terminal can lower the cost of calls made between landlines and mobile phones by routing the calls directly via the GSM network," said Juha Ala-Mursula, Director, Environment Connectivity Products, Mobile Enhancements Business Unit, Nokia Mobile Phones." For example, a company with a large number of field service personnel can dramatically cut the cost of calling their personnel on their mobile phones from the fixed lines in the office."

With a compact and lightweight design, the Nokia 32 terminal easily handles calls made between the fixed and mobile networks by connecting directly to an analog trunk line or PBX extension.  The Nokia 32 is also the ideal fixed line substitute where building or maintaining fixed telephone lines is not feasible, at building sites or mobile office locations.

The Nokia 32 can also connect to a PC with support for both HSCSD and GPRS data transmission. In addition, it supports Short Message Service (SMS), as well as supplementary services such as conference calling and call forwarding.
