Nokia One Mobile Connectivity Service mobilizes corporate applications with a Mobile Application Interface

March 11, 2003 - Nokia introduced today a new Mobile Application Interface (MAI). With the Nokia One service employees of all enterprises can have quick, mobile access to business applications, in addition to email and PIM.  Corporate web-based applications, the standard today for ease of use and portability, are now globally accessible from nearly any mobile phone, going beyond browser-based access.

The corporation centrally manages the applications on the back-end to serve employees in and out of the office.  Nokia One manages the application access, profiles the mobile devices, provides security and ensures services for future mobile development.

"Mobilized applications allow interaction, responses and alerts that eliminate delays in mission-critical production and business processes. Nokia One enables corporations to 'fast-track' mobile application deployment," says Gerhard Romen, Head of Sales and Marketing, Nokia One. "With Nokia One Mobile Applications Interface, corporations can now reach every employee without equipping them with specific devices."

The Nokia One Mobile Application Interface is easy to implement and test with only basic knowledge of web-based applications.  The corporate developer or systems integrator does not need detailed knowledge of the mobile devices or their interfaces, the transition from the computer to the mobile device is taken care of by the Nokia One service.  The modifications are minimal to enable users to access the application by SMS, WAP and Voice.

Several companies have already implemented the Nokia One MAI to enable mobile access to corporate applications.

Fujitsu Invia, based in Helsinki, Finland, has implemented mobile access to the SAP R/3 Plant Maintenance (PM) and Customer Service (CS) module. Using a mobile device, a service technician or a customer can communicate to SAP R/3 with real-time integration. While on the customer site, a technician can report  meter readings to SAP PM/CS for further processing. The technician can also query previous readings for specific equipment.

"The SAP PM/CS mobile extension will both save time and improve customer commitment and responsiveness enabling the customers to gain high return on investment and shorten pay back time." says Mr. Lasse Rautio, Director from Fujitsu Invia. "Using the Nokia One MAI, we were able to integrate a valuable mobile solution for our customers and provide the service from our existing service center."

Mobile Solutions Group, based in Berlin, Germany, which designs and develops mobile business applications, has implemented access to Microsoft Project files from mobile devices via SMS. Without connecting to the network, employees can retrieve task lists and resource information as well as add resources to tasks, change their availability for a project and report progress on assigned tasks.

The Triaton GmbH, based in Krefeld, Germany, and a company of the ThyssenKrupp Serv AG, implemented a solution for mobile employees to interface with SAP from any mobile phone. Employees are able to determine product availability, create an order, track order status, and find the delivery status.

YconX, based in Rodgau, Germany, specializing in mobile Enterprise Application Integration, has mobilized their document store and forward solution called SMS2mail, which is used by automobile dealers as well as the German television station ZDF. "The Nokia One MAI was very easy to use and implement. " says Mr. Patrick Roth, CEO YconX. "Accessing product documents wirelessly dramatically improves customer responsiveness and satisfaction."
