Series 60 wins the iF Design Award for excellent communication design

For the first time, a mobile communications software product is awarded with the Silver iF design award for its innovative and intuitive design in the category of digital media.

Nokia has won the Silver award in the Communication / Digital Media category at the annual iF Design Award Gala in conjunction with the CeBIT trade show in Hanover, Germany. In its category, Nokia was the only mobile communications company to receive recognition for the design of a non-physical product.

"For Nokia, receiving the iF Design Award for a software product is a recognition of good functionality design, and it highlights the paramount importance of good software design when making intuitive and compelling new consumer items like smartphones. The real test, however, lies in the hands of consumers. Well over two million customers have already chosen a Nokia Series 60 based mobile device, and five companies have altogether selected Series 60 as their smartphone platform," says Pertti Korhonen, Executive Vice President, Mobile Software, Nokia.

Other innovative Nokia products also received recognition at the annual design competition. The Nokia 8910 and the Nokia 3650 won the Silver iF design award and the iF design award respectively in the "Product Design" category.

The iF design competition, now in it's 50th year, is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world, attracting over 1,800 entries from 30 different countries every year. The iF award is a guarantee for outstanding product quality, critically examined and selected on the basis of a comprehensive catalogue of criteria by a jury composed of top international designers. Out of the pool of awards in each category, a select few receive an iF Gold or iF Silver Award for exemplary design. In the category of Communication / Digital Media, four companies received an iF Silver Award. An iF Gold Award was not awarded this year in this category.
