New Nokia phones make CDMA, 1X and GPS as easy as ABC

NEW ORLEANS - In the midst of North America's largest wireless show, surrounded by products with built-in cameras, color screens and QWERTY keyboards, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) today announced the refreshingly simple Nokia 2270, Nokia 2280 and Nokia 2285 phones, designed specifically for the customer who desires a phone optimized for basic person-to-person communication. These new phones are based on a Nokia-designed CDMA2000 1X chipset and integrate GPS functionality for carrier E911 compliance. Availability is expected during the second quarter of 2003.

The features of the Nokia 2270, Nokia 2280 and Nokia 2285 phones are designed to make the mobile voice experience as easy and enjoyable as possible while the smooth, rounded design proves that simplicity can be comfortably stylish. The built-in phonebook holds up to 250 entries, supports one-touch voice dialing for 25 of the most used numbers, and for added piece of mind, free software is available so that these entries can be easily backed up easily by simply attaching the phone to a PC via the optional USB cable. An alarm clock, and calendar also add to the personal functionality of the phones while downloadable ring tones and Java(TM) capability for adding personal applications create a custom experience for the user.

"From the soft-edged design to the silky color palette to the implementation of Nokia's familiar menu-driven user interface, everything about these new phones revolves around approachability," says Larry Paulson, vice president of product marketing for Nokia's CDMA business unit. "Even the rounded corners and soft-touch material used for the phone's body are designed to make people really want to pick it up and use it."

Even though the Nokia 2270, Nokia 2280 and Nokia 2285 phones are designed for an optimal voice experience, a number of the latest features also are included for users wanting to try out the newest ways to communicate. Wireless Internet access and full text messaging capability, including two-way SMS and e-mail support, are easily accessed through the graphical menu structure of the phones. For fast and simple text input, predictive text input to minimize the number of needed key presses also is included.
