New Avenues For Spirituality - New book offers innovative theories for morals in business

NEW YORK, March 18, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The interaction between spirit and commerce is the subject of a newly released book by authors William Dean and Don Waldy, VERITAS: A Gospel Of Commerce And Spirituality, The Beatitudes For Business (now available through 1stBooks Library),focuses on the fictional journey of the enlightenment of Ed Cartwell, a successful businessman who realizes how spiritualized commerce could reform business, politics and religion, resulting in humanity saving itself.

The authors strike a chord by thrusting the war between business, religion and politics into the limelight. While visiting his young nephew, Michael Cartwell, a scholarly priest called Cappy. Ed eagerly shares his insights and assembles his highly captivating theory into what he calls "Beatitudes For Business." Ed contends that the conventional 40 hours in the workplace could be elevated into a daily spiritual journey. He postulates that the "second coming" is going to reveal itself through commerce. Cappy, a devout Christian, does not agree and finds a hard time accepting his uncle's unusual ideas.

The two spar off in an impassioned debate derived from the major issues found in today's headlines: ethics, business, religion, politics, the stock market and salvation. Through the characters of Ed and Cappy, the authors explore the past, examine the present and discover a new inspiration for their own spirituality and define an innovative path the church and the marketplace could follow.

Dean is an actor and playwright who earned a bachelor's degree in theatre and speech from The College of William and Mary. He has performed for television, film and stage and behind the scenes as a producer, director and art director. Waldy has been a business director for more than 20 years, working for corporate and Fortune 500 companies. He received a "spiritual reawakening" during his first hours as a hospice volunteer.

VERITAS is the authors' first book.
