Nokia wins further D500 DSL expansion contract in Hebei province in China

Nokia has signed an agreement for the supply of next generation DSL equipment to enable Hebei Communication Corporation to further expand their broadband DSL network. Hebei province lies in the north of China and is amongst the most rapidly economically developing areas in China.

Nokia will provide both the D500 and the D50e DSLAM solutions to expand broadband coverage in Shijiazhuang and Baoding, two major cities in Hebei province. Deliveries have already begun.

"Hebei Communication Corporation chose the Nokia D500 next generation broadband access platform due to its capabilities in providing a high-density multi-DSL interface and connectivity solution. And due to its flexible network design with cascade feature enabling maximum utilization of our existing network resources," says Mr. Kang Zhihong, Director, Planning and Development Dept., Hebei Communication Corporation.

"We are particularly pleased that Hebei has chosen our new-generation Nokia D500 access platform as they expand their broadband service offerings," says Andrew Page, Head of Sales and Marketing, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks.

"Both the Nokia D500 and the Nokia D50 platforms support IP interfaces, which allow Hebei Communication Corporation to start the transition from an ATM-based broadband service network to IP-based networks.  We are happy to be helping them roll out cost-efficient solutions, and we look forward to doing the same in other Chinese provinces," adds Page.

The Nokia D500 Multiservice Access Platform supports ADSL, SHDSL, and VDSL based on a standard DMT chipset. The high-density, high-capacity D500 provides for a wide range of services and is designed to provide operators with the ability to evolve their networks from ATM to IP in a seamless manner, as IP becomes the prevalent protocol in the access network.

Both Nokia D500 and D50 products have been certified by the Ministry of Information Industry for use in China's national network.
