GOTHENBURG, Sweden, March 27, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Capio Healthcare UK has acquired of The Eye Academy (London) Ltd. in Harley Street. Capio (Other OTC:CPOOF) will be developing the Harley Street site into the first of its U.K. based "Capio Eye" centers based on the Swedish designed Medocular Eye clinics.
The Harley Street site currently performs laser refractive surgery but will be upgraded so that it will also be able to perform Cataract surgery as it does in its Nordic clinics. Capio expects the center to be fully operational in September but will continue to perform laser surgery in the intervening period. The current annual revenue for the site at Harley Street is in excess of SEK 8.5 M and has a staff of 3 full-time employees and 2 subcontracted ophthalmic Consultants.
Medocular is the biggest provider of private ophthalmic surgery services in Scandinavia, carrying out 7,000 cataract removals per year, 80 per cent of which are commissioned by the public sector. They also carry out in excess of 2 000 refractive treatments per year made up of the full range of modern refractive surgery techniques. Medocular is a wholly owned subsidiary of Capio AB.
