Protect Data AB: Aladdin and Pointse Collaborate to Deliver Highly Secure Authentication for Mobile Devices

Tightly Integrated Solution Prevents Sensitive Data Theft in the Field

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd. and Pointsec Mobile Technologies today announced they have partnered to provide strong, user convenient, two-factor network authentication for organizations seeking a comprehensive way to secure sensitive data on mobile IT devices such as laptops and, PDAs.

The collaboration, which combines Aladdin's eToken with Pointsec for PC, delivers a tightly integrated solution that ensures that critical information is kept secure, not only during its service lifetime, but long after the machine has been abandoned or scrapped - a capability that organizations managing highly sensitive data, such as government agencies, defense contractors, hospitals, banks, and credit bureaus, must implement to prevent the theft of data over the long term. Pointsec and Aladdin have incorporated their solutions in such a way that the extra layers of security protection are affordable, effective and, most importantly, simple to implement quickly and very easy to use.

- The need for this type of tightly integrated strong, two-factor authentication grew out of the requirements of two separate customers. The first was a Dutch government organization that needed to secure data long after their machines were removed from service. The second was a Japanese healthcare organization requiring a product that was primarily very easy to use and highly secure - we now offer this solution to all our customers, says Kurt Lennartsson, VP of Strategy at Pointsec.

- Allowing users to take their authentication keys and digital certificates with them wherever they go, eToken serves as strong, highly complementary authentication technology for both mobile and stationary applications. Moreover, users only need to remember one password, which offers both convenience and extra security because users are less prone to leave passwords lying around, accessible by those with a keen eye and less than legitimate intent, said Leedor Agam, vice president of eToken solutions at Aladdin Knowledge Systems.

eToken provides convenient, user-friendly, physical authentication while Pointsec's secure screensaver automatically locks the computer whenever a user removes the USB form factor smart card enabled device. Only after the user has been re-authenticated via the eToken and password can he or she gain access to the unit. This creates a strong, two factor authentication process that cannot be breached because it is highly unlikely that an unauthorized user can obtain both the token and the password to gain access.

By deploying eTokens with Pointsec's central management and mandatory access control, administrators can efficiently implement, update, and strengthen their organizations' security policy. In addition, sophisticated recovery and Remote Help functionality ensures that administrators can always help authorized users to instantly access their data - no matter where they are or how their device has been locked.
