Nokia to deliver WCDMA 3G network to Telestet in Greece

Nokia has signed an agreement to supply Telestet's WCDMA 3G network in Greece. Deliveries have already commenced with Nokia providing both 3G core and radio-access network equipment for the smooth roll-out and introduction of Telestet's nationwide WCDMA network. The network is expected to be commercially launched by the end of 2003.

The Nokia WCDMA 3G solution will enable Telestet customers to enjoy advanced multimedia mobile services, such as multimedia messaging.

In addition to network equipment, Nokia will provide support in project management, implementation and integration for efficient network ramp-up, as well as a wide range of care services, including training, software maintenance and emergency services, to help maintain the competitiveness of the network.

"We are happy to work with Nokia. We put our trust that Nokia's 3G solution will provide technologically superior service and will meet our needs for cost-efficient and effective roll-out to deliver 3G services to our customers. Telestet is recognised as an innovator in the Greek market and has committed to provide its customers exciting and user friendly 3G services of high quality standards. Nokia has demonstrated their support towards this goal. " says Nikolaos Varsakis, CEO of Telestet.

WCDMA is the most efficient technology for integrated mobile voice and data networks. WCDMA - like GSM/EDGE technologies - is a fully standardized global solution with open interfaces. It provides high-data rates and the benefits of global production volumes. WCDMA is fast emerging as the global standard of choice for next-generation communications, with 85% of the global 3G network markets expected to be based on WCDMA. Nokia is a leading supplier in WCDMA infrastructure, with over 30 customers around the world.

"Nokia is happy to be supplying its 3G solution to such a market innovator as Telestet, says Giorgio Pucci, Vice President, Nokia Networks. "With Nokia's 3G solution, Telestet will be driving the advanced mobile services market in Greece. WCDMA is the only true wideband wireless standard and offers the most economical and efficient network solution with the overwhelmingly largest user base, footprint and roaming "
