XAware Simplifies XML-Based Information Exchange at the Bureau of Land Management; Technology Enables Faster, Easier Exchange of Oil and Gas Well Data With Government Agencies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- XAware, Inc., a leader in XML-based information exchange, announces that it has been selected by Office Technology Systems (OTS) for its client, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Working with OTS, a Denver-based systems integrator, XAware enabled improvements in data exchange to the BLM's Well Information System (WIS). WIS allows oil and gas operators working on BLM land to enter their permitting data via a new Web interface that exchanges information with related agencies via XML. Previously, when state or federal organizations such as oil and gas regulatory agencies needed information, the BLM would fax or mail hardcopies. This new process eliminates manual efforts while increasing the accuracy of information.

One of the BLM's many functions within the U.S. Department of the Interior is to oversee oil and gas wells on federal lands, requiring it to collect and store a wealth of data about each well. There was a critical need for data exchange among diverse state and federal government systems nationwide and OTS looked for a solution based on XML, which is rapidly becoming the standard for the exchange of heterogeneous data. XAware's data integration technology lets organizations quickly create XML views, treating many data sources as a single logical source and enabling the bi-directional exchange of information across disparate applications -- both internally and externally.

XAware solved the BLM's data exchange needs by enabling bi-directional access to the Well Information System. XML schemas and templates are used to interface to WIS, ensuring accuracy and consistency in the exchange of data between agencies. The BLM cut its planned development time by 87%, lowered project costs, and met its goal of getting pertinent data to related state and federal agencies in a timely manner.

With XAware, each data exchange transaction was implemented in 5 hours instead of the originally budgeted 40 hours -- an 87% reduction in manpower. By implementing XAware's XA-Suite, OTS created templates and unloaded data in XML in less than two days, including training time. "XAware just seemed to fit so perfectly," explained Gene Thibodeau, National Project Coordinator for OTS and manager of the WIS data exchange project. "The XAware solution was very compelling when we considered the manpower involved to accomplish the same result in a traditional manner."

Employing XAware's technology has allowed OTS to bypass generating thousands of lines of code involving many man-hours and to quickly deliver a solution to the BLM. For more information about XAware's solution for OTS and the BLM, go to www.xaware.com/whitepapers/blm_case_study.html.
