Nokia chosen to secure global network of Swedish transaction technology provider OM

OM, a world leader in transaction technology solutions for the financial and energy industries, has chosen Nokia IP network security appliances to protect its global business.  The Nokia solution runs Check Point Software Technologies' (Nasdaq:CHKP) market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Internet security software.

The importance of security is recognised at all levels of the company and the criteria for choosing the right security system have been stringent.  "We were looking for a platform that was stable and proven to be secure with adherence to key industry standards.  We also wanted a global company that could provide this service all around the world as we have offices in many regions.  We chose Nokia as it is a strong company, and its solution was easy to implement and manage," says Hakan Leydner, Head of Internal IT Infrastructure.

In addition to the pre-requisite of global connectivity, the company required a solution that would combine firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) functionality as well as a fully meshed network between all offices. The key aim of this network was to create a global intranet, providing opportunities for people at various offices to work together in a central, virtual workspace.

OM also required a security infrastructure that offered the flexibility to allow product demonstrations for potential customers, to provide access to chosen external partners and to service an inter-company e-mail service.

"Aside from the security offered, the Nokia platform is accepted as being one of the strongest. It was also very important to have a company that we could feel connected to and that would be a cost-effective partner of ours in the future," says Leydner.

"Transaction processing, particularly in the financial industry, is obviously highly mission-critical.  We have also always understood that cost control is a key element of our customers' network management needs now and in the future and we are delighted that OM has chosen Nokia," says Ernie Jones, Nokia Internet Communications Vice President of Sales, Europe, Middle-East & Africa.

Stock transactions are also a core element of OM's business with an inherent prerequisite for network security and adherence to common industry network security standards such as, IPSec security functionality with Nokia IP network appliances and financial market security directives, BS 7799 and ISO 17799.

The success of the OM network and the Nokia solution is clear: fifty per cent of OM's global network users are accessing the network remotely and the Nokia solution was the key driver in ensuring trustworthy authentication as part of OM's global access security policy.

Areas for future network access enhancement include broadband access, home security and telecommuting. The company sees much potential in using the solutions from Nokia to satisfy increased connectivity and expansion of its workforce while ensuring the highest return on the security products it chooses.
