The Beat Goes On and On and On ... With Al Green, Chuck Berry, The Hooters, Common and Old and In The Gray; At the 18th Annual Jam on the River Memorial Day Weekend at Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, May 1, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The talent roster gets better and better as more acts are added to the bill for the 18th Annual Jam on the River returning to the Great Plaza on Penn's Landing on May 24-26, 2003. Adding to headliners Chuck Berry and Al Green, are the Hooters and major newcomer acts Common and Vivian Green. The official kick-off to summer fun in Philadelphia, Jam on the River will feature three packed days of non-stop music on four stages. After months of planning, the talent line-up for the three-day music and food festival was announced. Joining the headliners are Jam favorites Marcia Ball, Marva Wright and the BMW's and Buckwheat Zydeco.

Saturday May 24th will feature local favorites including Lauren Hart, K-Floor, Town Hall and star the legendary Chuck Berry. Hometown boys, the Hooters will also headline Saturday night. Another exciting addition to Saturday's line-up will include Hip-Hop artist Common, popular for his appearance in recent Coke commercials.

Headlining the festival on Sunday May 25th R&B and soul superstar Al Green. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mavis Staples and breakthrough neo-soul artist Vivian Green will also take the stage on Sunday, along with Lady Alma another neo-soul performer, Jam favorites Marcia Ball and Alligator Zydeco. Other local bands including Love Seed Mama Jump will round out Sunday's line-up.

Old and In the Gray with David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements, Herb Pedersen and Bryn Bright added to the talent mix on Monday May 26th (Memorial Day) along with the Disco Biscuits is an exciting addition to the array of talent, too. Reggae favorites Israel Vibrations, Donna the Buffalo, Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, Don't Look Down and other Jam bands will complete the music-filled three days.

The four stages will include a new, main stage on the Great Plaza, the US Airways stage will be on the Walnut Street side of the Great Plaza, the NBA Rhythm and Rims tour will offer a concert stage showcasing national rising stars and top regional acts in Pop, R&B and Alternative music genres, and the stage on the paddlewheel ship, the Liberty Belle. With view from the land, the acts on the Liberty Belle will include local artists Sam Zamarelli, Betsy Spivak, The Day, and Jen Hess.

With non-stop music and activity from noon until 9 p.m. each day, of the three-day festival, Jam on the River ticket price is a value at $15 a day (in advance) through Ticketmaster, and a limited number of tickets for $20 at the gate. Children's tickets are just $10 for kids 2-12 and kids under 2 are free! Parking will be provided along Columbus Boulevard with shuttle busses. Public transportation is easily accessible as well.
