Monthly Statistics Stockholmsborsen April 2003


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 02, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Stockholmsborsen:

-- The turnover in number of traded stock options contracts for a single trading day reached an all time high in April (April 29) with 524,454 contracts per day.

-- The trading in equity related derivatives products for a single trading day (April 29) reached an all time high, 635,565 contracts.

-- The SAX index increased by 12.3% and the OMX index increased by 14.0%.

Share trading

The average share trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 9,272 million during April (during the past 12-month period: 9 043). In March 2003 the average share trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 7,875 million. The average number of closed transactions per business day has been 34,712 during April (during the past 12-month period: 38,947). The turnover rate during April was 131% (during the past 12-month period: 120%).

Derivative trading

Average derivative trading turnover (Swedish share and interest-rate related contracts) amounted during April to 301,409 contracts (during the past 12-month period 251,361) per business day. The average derivative trading turnover amounted during March to 256,123 per business day. The average number of contracts in share-related derivative products amounted during April to 285,109 contracts (during the past 12-month period 227,533) per business day, while the average number of contracts in interest-rate related derivative products amounted during April to 16,299 contracts (during the past 12-month period 23,828) per business day. The total value of trade in stock options amounted for April to SEK 40.2 (during the past 12-month 53.9) million per day. The total value of trade in stocks options amounted for March to SEK 36.1 million per day.

Warrants trading

The average warrants trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 24,054 thousand during April (during the past 12-month period: 23,931). In March 2003 the average warrants trading turnover per business day amounted to SEK 22,030 thousand.

Index developments

The OMX index increased during April by 14.0% and closed on 521.9 (31 March 2003: 457.8). The Benchmark index closed on 181.1 as of 30 April (31 March 2003: 156.3), which is an increase of 15.9%. The SX All-share index (the SAX index) closed on 155.1 (31 March 2003: 138.2), which corresponds to an increase of 12.3% during the month. The Information Technology Index increased most during the month and closed on 85.7 (31 March 2003: 65.3), which is an increase of 31.1%. The Consumer Staples Index decreased most during the month and closed on 264.2 (31 March 2003: 274.6), which is a decrease of 3.8%.

Listed companies

During April, five companies have been delisted from the O-list. Futhermore, three companies have been delisted from the A-list and one of them transferred to the O-list. The number of listed companies on Stockholmsborsen is 287, of which 59 are listed on the A-list and 228 on the O-list. Total market value for the companies on the A-list amounts to SEK 1,447 billion, and on the O-list to SEK 411 billion. Total market value thereby amounted to SEK 1 858 billion as of 30 April 2003 (31 March 2003: 1,670).

Market Surveillance

Stockholmsborsen has in April referred one case of suspected illegal insider trading and two cases of suspected market manipulation to the Financial Supervisory Authority.

The shares of three companies have been placed at the Observation segment of the O-list in April. One company has after approximately 1.5 months at the Observation segment of the O-list been delisted from Stockholmsborsen. One company has been placed at the Observation segment of the O-list for approximately 8.5 months due to a considerable change of the company's business. After a review of the company's ability to fulfil the listing requirements, Stockholmsborsen has decided to quote the company's shares again at the O-list.
