Precise Biometrics and RSA Security Announce Strategic Partnership to Deliver 3-Factor Authentication

LUND, Sweden, June 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- RSA Security plans to add another level of trust to its market-leading RSA SecurID(R) authentication solution by integrating Precise Biometrics'(Other OTC:PBMTF) Precise BioMatch(TM) Technology.

Precise Biometrics AB (publ) , developer and provider of a leading and user-friendly biometric security solution based on fingerprints and RSA Security (Nasdaq:RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security(R), today announced a strategic partnership which will allow RSA Security customers to add another layer of authentication to their identity management system. RSA Security plans to design this new solution to enhance user convenience, reduce costs and increase user productivity.

Under terms of the agreement, RSA Security will integrate Precise Biometrics' Precise BioMatch(TM) fingerprint authentication technology with RSA SecurID(R) Passage smart card software and the RSA SecurID USB Token to enable strong protection and validation of a user's identity based on biometrics. By building on Precise Biometrics technology, RSA Security plans to provide an integrated biometric/smart card solution for customers that want either strong two or three-factor authentication to help protect access to corporate applications, to unlock credentials stored on a smart card, or to digitally sign electronic forms or documents.

The addition of fingerprint biometrics as an authentication factor is an important step forward that offers customers identity validation with exceptional convenience and management. Organizations needing to balance ease of use with another level of security can select from either two or three-factor authentication with the use of a smart card or USB token (something you have) the biometric (something you are) and a PIN (something you know). Through the development of this solution, RSA Security and Precise Biometrics intend to help customers effectively address their respective identity management requirements by establishing and managing trust in identities.

"We are pleased that RSA Security has teamed with Precise Biometrics to use our Precise BioMatch(TM) as its preferred method of fingerprint biometric authentication for RSA SecurID authentication software," said Christer Bergman, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics. "The extended cooperation with RSA Security provides enterprises and government agencies with a secure and convenient option for physical and logical access."

RSA SecurID Passage is an innovative smart card and digital credential solution that enables strong user authentication to networks and multiple applications. It is designed to provide users with an unprecedented level of security, mobility and control. RSA SecurID Passage replaces static passwords with a Java platform smart card for user authentication to workstations, networks and sensitive data. Its Java Card multi-application capability allows customers to deploy other applications - ranging from electronic purse, custom designed employee applications and now biometric functionality - to the same card. The RSA SecurID USB Token combines the convenience of a plug-and-play USB device with the optimal secure storage of digital credentials on a standards-based Java platform.

"Strong authentication is at the core of identity and access management," said Bill McQuaide, Senior Vice President, Authentication Division at RSA Security. "Through our strategic partnership with Precise Biometrics, RSA Security plans to offer a multi-application smart card-based solution that is designed to support passwords, digital certificates and strong authentication of users through three-factor authentication with fingerprint biometrics. This multi-application approach to authentication is designed to provide customers with a strong foundation for identity management, helping manage and establish trust in user identities."
