Saab Aerospace Gives Notice to 350 People

LINKOPING, Sweden, June 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Saab Aerospace has today given notice to the County Employment Board in Ostergotland regarding 350 white-collar employees at the operation in Linkoping.

The reason for the notice is a reduction in employment due to a reduced workload on the development side.

"Very few new development assignments focusing on the new defense are currently being placed with the Swedish defense industry. This is also affecting us. Gripen is Sweden's largest industrial project and is the foundation of Sweden's high-tech aircraft industry. The decline within Saab Aerospace is certainly an adaptation to a new phase in the project. However, since very few future-oriented development assignments have been placed in the last couple of years, we are now forced to make this cut-back on the development side within Saab Aerospace as it currently stands," said Hans Kruger, Manager of Saab Aerospace.

Negotiations have been entered into with the relevant union organizations.

"As one of a number of support measures that may be relevant for the employees affected, we are offering help in finding new jobs," said Hans Kruger.

Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies, with its main operations focusing on defense, aviation and space. The Group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.
