Nokia Chosen To Secure Ferring's Global Network

International pharmaceutical company, Ferring, has chosen Nokia to protect its global corporate virtual private network (VPN) using Nokia IP network security appliances running Check Point Software Technologies' (NASDAQ: CHKP) market-leading VPN-18(R)/FireWall-1(R) Internet security software.

Ferring, headquartered in Denmark with around 45 subsidiary companies located around the world, requires secure and reliable communications for rapidly expanding operations beyond its traditional European base.  Ferring has also undertaken a risk review as part of its company security policy and following an increase in computer virus proliferation.  The company initiated local point security solutions progressing toward product integration solutions.  Its firewall and VPN requirements were met with the combined Nokia IP network security appliances running Check Point software through reseller, Network Consult A/S.

The Nokia IP network security appliances have been deployed at all subsidiaries and are managed centrally with Nokia Horizon Manager. Nokia Horizon Manager, Nokia's multi-appliance management tool, was a key decision factor for Ferring.

Ferring is now looking to increase remote access for its employees as well as extranet services for external partners, third party vendors and customers.  A secure information exchange is paramount, given that the extranet solution will also interface with government authorities in Denmark and the United States for the exchange of pharmaceutical data and studies.

Network security is seen as a holistic responsibility for Ferring and trusted remote access is key to all their stakeholders.  "We have a director of internal audit who reports to the Board and is very aware of network security issues. Production, finance and IT audits are completed in all subsidiaries.  As we have undertaken reviews and expanded, the Nokia security solution has provided Ferring with the fundamental building blocks for our security infrastructure, "says Soren Kahlke, director of global IT operations, Ferring.

As a highly regulated industry, network security is seen as paramount to pharmaceutical companies.  "The exchange of data within the pharmaceutical industry is a highly sensitive matter and we are proud that Ferring has put its trust in our award-winning network security solution, "says Ernie Jones, vice president of sales, Europe Middle East and Africa, Nokia Internet Communications.
