ARM `Huasteco' AMP-01, A Mexican Naval Ship, Docks at Penn's Landing

 WHAT:        The Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia and the Penn's 
              Landing Corporation welcome the "Huasteco," a Mexican 
              Naval ship used to transport cargo and troops and act
              as part of the medical Navy brigade. The ship acts as an
              "at-sea" hospital with an operating room and helicopter 
              deck. The ship is 237 ft. in length, weighs 2,650 tons, 
              and contains a crew of 46 with 120 midshipmen. 

 BACKGROUND:  The "Huasteco's" visit to Philadelphia is part of a 
              training cruise for the ship's 120 midshipmen. It allows
              the midshipmen to take the knowledge they acquired at
              the Mexican Naval Academy and apply it for practical 
              use. The cruise will allow the midshipmen to develop 
              into professional naval officers.
