Acme Packet, IP Unity, Jasomi Networks and SNOM join SIP Forum as Corporate Members

Representing a total of 33 corporate members, the SIP Forum is the largest concentration of network power in the SIP industry

STOCKHOLM, June 30, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- SIP Forum (www.sipforum.org), the leading forum for the promotion and inter-working of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), announced that leading technology companies Acme Packet, IP Unity, Jasomi Networks and have joined the SIP Forum as Corporate members. The SIP Forum's overall strategy is to create unity and cooperation among industry players in order to push the global use and interoperability of Session Initiation Protocol and companion technologies. Each company will receive a vote on the SIP Forum's board.

"We're delighted to welcome this wave of new members," said Jorgen Bjorkner, Chairman of the SIP Forum. "We view the attraction of SIP Forum membership as validation of our continuing marketing efforts initiated in the first half of 2003."

"Acme Packet looks forward to joining the other members of the SIP Forum in promoting awareness and education around the session initiation protocol and the innovation it brings to the world of IP communications," said Jim Hourihan, Vice President Marketing and Product Management, Acme Packet. "Our session border controllers support SIP, and the interworking between SIP and other IP session signaling protocols, because SIP is becoming the protocol of choice for real-time, interactive communications and because service providers require a migration path from legacy protocols to all-SIP based networks.'

"SIP has gained tremendous momentum among service providers and equipment makers because of its simple, open design, creating a new paradigm for enhanced services by combining voice, data and video," said Brett Azuma, senior vice president of marketing for IP Unity. "Our carrier class media server, the Harmony6000, is fully SIP compliant and plays a central role in the delivery of customized enhanced services in today and tomorrow's networks. IP Unity is fully committed to making SIP a successful standard and we are proud to be working with the SIP Forum who have done so much to drive this technology."

"Jasomi frequently deploys its NAT traversal and session control solutions into multi-vendor networks with other SIP Forum members," commented Benjamin Freedman, Vice President of Marketing at Jasomi Networks. "We look forward to working with all members to increase industry awareness and understanding of voice, video, instant messaging, and presence over converged IP networks."

"Being totally committed to open standards and especially SIP, we felt compelled to join the SIP Forum and help promote SIP through financial, technical and educational contributions." commented Nicolas Pohland, Founder and Executive Director of SNOM, a manufacturer focused on offering complete SIP solutions.
