Nokia wins broadband access deal from China Telecom

Nokia and China Telecom have signed a frame agreement for the supply of DSL equipment to four of China Telecom's subsidiaries in Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangsu provinces.  The frame agreements cover the year 2003, and call for the supply of more than 100,000 DSL lines. Nokia will supply D50 and the D500 next-generation multiservice access platform and related services. Delivery and implementation have already started.

"With this deal, China Telecom is strengthening broadband services in China," says Stephen Tsang, Sales Director, APAC, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks.

"China Telecom is taking advantage of major advances in broadband to provide the best possible service for its customers.  Nokia, as a global player in broadband, is very pleased to be closely cooperating with China Telecom in this effort.  This deal further highlights Nokia's achievements and commitment to broadband business in China and around the world," he adds.

Nokia will also be providing Implementation and Project Management service, as well as Care service to maintain the competitiveness of the network.

The Nokia D500 Multiservice Access Platform supports ADSL, SHDSL, and VDSL based on a standard DMT chipset. The high-density, high-capacity D500 provides for a wide range of services and is designed to provide operators with the ability to evolve their networks from ATM to IP in a seamless manner, as IP becomes the prevalent protocol in the access network.
