F.L.Smidth wins greenfield project in Florida, USA


Civil & Marine Inc, USA, part of the Civil & Marine (Holdings) Ltd. Group in the UK, has placed an order with F.L.Smidth A/S, a member of the FLS Group, for a new greenfield slag grinding facility in Port Canaveral, Florida, USA.

The slag facility will be supplied on turnkey terms by F.L.Smidth Inc., USA, and has a value of more than USD 31 million.

The machinery and equipment will be shipped to the plant site during the next six months. The slag grinding facility is expected to be operational in September 2004. The facility has an output capacity of 83 tonnes per hour of ground slag with provisions for later expansion up to 110 tonnes per hour.

The contract recently signed includes the supply of equipment, engineering, commissioning services and spares as well as the civil construction of buildings and installation of the equipment.

According to the contract F.L.Smidth will supply a UMS 50 x 15.5 metre ball mill equipped with a state-of-the-art LGD lateral gear unit to be supplied by MAAG Gear AG of the F.L.Smidth Group. F.L.Smidth's scope of supply also includes an O-Sepa high-efficiency separator, a flash dryer and miscellaneous auxiliary equipment, with F.L.Smidth Materials Handling A/S providing two 5000 tonne storage silos with truck load-out systems. The contract also includes auxiliary building, offices and control room.

The project has been under development for eight months in close cooperation with Civil & Marine and the design is already into its final stages at the time of contract signing.

The contract was won against hard competition and reinforces F.L.Smidth's long-standing relationship with Civil & Marine.

The contract will not affect the 2003 earnings prospects of FLS Industries A/S.
