Viaero Wireless picks Nokia to be sole supplier of its GSM network

Viaero Wireless will enhance its current cellular offering by introducing GSM/GPRS/EDGE service for its customers in Colorado and Nebraska.  Nokia will be the sole supplier of the GSM system that Viaero Wireless will use to replace its existing CDMA network.

Under the agreement, Nokia will supply a complete system, including GSM and GPRS core networks, an EDGE-capable radio network, and the Nokia NetAct(TM) network and service management system.  In addition, Nokia is providing network planning and optimization, implementation, as well as care services.  Deliveries have already begun and the network will be operational in the beginning of October 2003.

"The choice of GSM/GPRS/EDGE clearly indicates Viaero Wireless' commitment to providing the latest technology to their customers and roaming partners," said Heikki Kasko, senior vice president, Nokia Networks, Americas.  "This deal also signals Nokia's commitment to bringing high quality digital service to rural markets in the USA."

"For too long the rural wireless subscriber has been ignored and forced to accept less than desired services," said Frank DiRico, CEO and President of Viaero Wireless.  "My commitment is to provide end-to-end coverage and anytime access to wireless services superior to anything yet experienced by rural subscribers."

GSM is the world's most popular digital network standard, providing the widest possible roaming opportunities.  The "always on" connectivity of GPRS is ideal for services such as Push to Talk and new mobile data services. Viaero will immediately introduce such digital features as caller ID, voice mail messaging/notification, short messaging service, and Internet messaging.

The current analog wireless system serving northeast Colorado will continue to function as an alternative for Colorado subscribers.  All subscribers on the current CDMA system in Nebraska will be replaced with GSM before years' end.

NE Colorado Cellular, Inc. doing business as Cellular ONE of Northeast Colorado since 1991, and Wireless II, LLC doing business as Nebraska Wireless since 1995; announced today the formation of a new Wireless Communications Company that will be doing business as Viaero Wireless.  NE Colorado Cellular, Inc. will be the sole owner and operator of Viaero Wireless.

Viaero Wireless has acquired PCS licenses to serve a territory of over 70,000 square miles in northeast Colorado and western and central Nebraska.  It has contracted with major GSM nationwide service providers in the USA to assure that Viaero subscribers have seamless uniform access to GSM features and functions when outside the local service area.
