COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 25, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) congratulates Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless Communications, Inc. (APBW) on its nationwide deployment of CDMA2000(r), the first 3G services in Taiwan. APBW joins 59 carriers operating commercial CDMA2000 networks worldwide.
"APBW's strategy is to capture market share by providing quality multimedia services and rich content at attractive prices," said an APBW official. "CDMA2000 1X allowed us to be the first-to-market with 3G services in Taiwan, deliver data at speeds of up to 153 kbps nationwide and up to 2 Mbps with 1xEV-DO in the Taipei metropolitan area, and offer a broad selection of handsets."

APBW deployed their nationwide CDMA2000 1X network in only eight months. The operator has reached its goals to launch 3G service and provide advanced voice and data services to Taiwan's mobile customers ahead of other 3G licensees. APBW's Qma mobile multi-media services offer 10 main service groups with more than 1,000 content choices, including movie clips, TV news, video mail, online gaming, real-time traffic reports and music downloads.
"3G comes to Taiwan to offer its 23M subscribers more satisfactory selections and to bring great opportunities for local handset vendors, channel and digital content providers, media, transportation and security," continued the APBW official.
CDMA2000 dominates 3G today, with 50 million subscribers, or 99 percent of the 3G market. In addition to the 60 commercial CDMA2000 networks, 17 more are scheduled for deployment in the second half of 2003.
