Revamp and upgrade contract for Chinese caprolactam complex

Aker Kvaerner's contract value for its services is in the range of USD10-15 million. Aker Kvaerner is performing the (extended) basic engineering, the project management and construction management services. The revamp project will upgrade the plant to the state-of-the-art DSM Stamicarbon HPOplus technology and will increase production from 60,000 to 140,000 tonnes per annum, including improvement of safety and environmental aspects. The revamp includes modification work to be executed during the running of the plant and will therefore encompass several shutdowns.

The project will be executed with an integrated team of contractors, including the Sinopec Nanjing Design Institute (NCIDI), and the operational organisation. The joint Aker Kvaerner / NCIDI project team will work from NCIDI offices adjacent to the plant site in Nanjing.

Wim van der Zande, President of AK Process, said: "We are very pleased with the award of this key project for our organisation. The initial development of this project began in 1996, and this award continues the long working relationship we have had with DSM on a variety of projects. We are currently executing several projects, together with our local operations and the Design Institutes, in China, and this latest award will enable us to further utilise our unique global resources and office network to deliver an integrated project solution."
