Nokia Unveils Robust Spam Prevention, Content Filtering and Superior Email Protection with Multi-Layered, Secure Content Management System

Mountain View, Calif. - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced enhanced spam prevention and content inspection on Nokia Message Protector. Nokia Message Protector, version 1.3, is the industry's first integrated, multi-layer security solution purpose-built to protect email against all common threats, including spam, unlawful and unwanted content, computer viruses, and other malicious attacks.

"Email remains the number one mission critical business application. When email is disrupted, the business stops. Not properly securing enterprise email content can adversely impact a company's bottomline," said Dave Edwards, senior director, Nokia. "Spam eats up network resources and impacts employee productivity. Add to this the corporate liability associated with improper use of corporate email to distribute private, copyrighted and offensive content, along with the cleanup costs and lost business when the mail network is taken down by malicious attacks, and the need for a robust, layered secure content management strategy becomes a competitive and regulatory necessity."

Nokia Message Protector v1.3 secures email content, enabling IT departments to establish predictable mail system budgets, system access schedules, regulatory compliance and content policy. Other features include:
- Multi-layered email security from Nokia along with fully integrated technology from Postini, Kaspersky Laboratories, Elron and InDefense-all providing a common and secure integrated solution at the network perimeter, featuring spam prevention, content inspection, attachment management and virus protection.
- Postini anti-spam technology to achieve the highest levels of spam protection.
- Detailed and granular content inspection to extend corporate policy to email content.
- Secure automated updates to automate and accelerate deployment of new application and signature files eliminating malicious exploits.

With the new Postini option, Nokia Message Protector will capitalize on two distinct technologies.
Postini's Threat Identification Network (PTIN), integrated with  Nokia Message Protector, provides the capability to filter messages using near real time access to a centralized database of known spam.  This database is constantly updated by the processing of over 120 million emails sent to Postini's thousands of enterprise and service provider customers, and does not require external routing of email traffic.

In addition, the Postini Anti-Spam Engine (PASE) integrated in Nokia Message Protector boasts a proven track record blocking tens of millions of spam each day.  PASE offers another layer to block junk email, directory harvest attacks, and email bombs before they reach enterprise mail servers.  Each email message is evaluated using thousands of email attributes, in addition to including fine tuning options that consistently identify 95 percent of spam.

Nokia Message Protector v1.3 will enable enterprise IT executives to confidently seize new opportunities in extending fixed and wireless network access to corporate email. The Nokia appliance reduces cost of ownership and improves return on investment through ease of use and deployment, maintenance and support, and saved resources and IT staff time. Designed to provide maximum integrity and uptime of the enterprise-messaging infrastructure, in-house tests show that Nokia Message Protector can scan more than 120,000 messages per hour.

Consistent with the entire Nokia IP Security Platform family, Nokia Message Protector is backed by global Nokia First Call-Final Resolution support network to ensure that customers have a single point of contact for all support needs.

Nokia Message Protector v1.3 will be globally available in October 2003.
