New Nokia Horizon Manager streamlines security management

Mountain View, Calif. - (September 23, 2003) - Nokia (NYSE:NOK), today announced Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3, a centralized deployment, maintenance and recovery management solution for local and remote security appliance infrastructure. Scaling from two to thousands of Nokia IP security appliances, Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3 provides a new built-in scheduler that executes pre-set tasks aligned with required maintenance time frames, ensuring enterprises meet their service delivery goals. The new release also offers appliance deployment features designed to streamline ongoing configuration maintenance as well as initial appliance deployment.

"The ability to easily maintain and deploy security across local and remote networks can be challenging, costly, and if not performed - very risky," said Dan MacDonald, vice president of marketing, Nokia. "Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3 provides an inherently secure management solution that streamlines the security management process while significantly reducing the total cost of ownership."

Nokia Horizon Manager simplifies global security appliance management by using an integrated best-practice management console across a broad range of Nokia IP network security appliances and associated security applications, including those from the popular Nokia Security Developer Alliance line-up.

The new configuration deployment feature rapidly and securely configures multiple Nokia IP network security appliances and their IPSO operating system settings, with a single command. Furthermore, configuration templates can be edited and stored to form a set of common and standardized configurations. This ensures consistency across multiple security appliances, enabling rapid, error-free business application rollouts.

A new task scheduler feature in Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3 further simplifies security management by allowing users to schedule maintenance tasks for error-free appliance configuration management. The task scheduler increases operational efficiency by implementing best practice security management such as system backups, upgrades, and password changes.

Nokia's new remote GUI architecture securely connects a remote client to a centralized Nokia Horizon Manager server, which in turn communicates via SSH with RSA and DSA authentication. This allows authorized IT security administrators to manage multiple appliances from any convenient location. Additionally, customers can maximize platform configuration recovery success thanks to Nokia Horizon Manager's automated appliance configuration backups and "Do No Harm" intelligence.

Additional Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3 benefits include:

Rapid "Do No Harm" migration to Check Point VPN-1/Firewall-1 NG
Ongoing IPSO OS and platform configuration maintenance
Secure SSH communication (RSA/DSA) links with SSH key generation
Management of Check Point Licenses
Single or Multiple appliance passwords updates
Nokia Network Voyager extension with multi-appliance management
Global support and services software subscription

Nokia Horizon Manager is backed by global Nokia First Call-Final Resolution support network to ensure that customers have a single point of contact for all support needs. The Nokia Horizon Manager application is designed to operate in a Solaris or Windows 2000 environment, and supports all Nokia IP platforms from the Nokia IP30 to the Nokia IP1260.

Nokia Horizon Manager v1.3 is now available globally.
