Psychotherapists Develop New Method - Creators of innovative psychotherapy method explain process in new book

OSLO, Norway, Sept. 23, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Psychotherapists Odd and Lois A. Reiersol's method for the Therapy Cycle Process has been successfully practiced at their psychotherapy institute in Norway, and now the keys to this process are being revealed in their new book for professionals working in mental health fields. In From Trauma to Repair: The Therapy Cycle Process (now available through 1stBooks), Lois A. Reiersol, Ph.D., Lise Lian and Donald MacLaren teach therapists to use this innovative process.

The Therapy Cycle Process incorporates various forms of psychotherapy to create a creative and effective method to improve patients' self-image and their relationships with others. The authors have studied such subjects such as Gestalt therapy, psychodrama, primal therapy and feeling therapy. The reader takes away a further understanding of self-talk, negative role figures, wished-for role figures and symbolic figures/objects. Although none of these are new practices, the way in which each is used bring new options to both practitioners and clients. Its honesty and simplicity make this method something Lois Reiersol's clients urged her to capture in a book.

Easy to read, the book focuses primarily on the first 10 trainees who completed a three-year training program on this process. The authors have also included case studies to supplement the information with real-life examples.

Perfect for psychotherapists, psychologists and psychiatrists, the book will also be helpful for professionals such as social workers, alternative medicine practitioners, nurses, pastoral counselors and special education teachers.

Lois Reiersol, Ph.D., began her studies in therapy work as a music therapist, helping to found the Creative Arts Rehabilitation Center in Manhattan, N.Y. She later studied primal therapy and psychology in Berkeley, Calif., and started a private practice in psychotherapy. Her practice took her to Oslo, Norway, where she and her husband, Odd, began the Solerv Psychotherapy Institute more than 25 years ago. Lise Lian has studied the Therapy Cycle Process for six years. She spent 10 years as an assistant to Norwegian scientist and explorer Thor Heyerdahl and has translated two books. She spends her time drawing and painting and has had art exhibitions in Norway and France. Don MacLaren is a New York City-based writer and editor who authored or co-authored several books, including The Road Back, Kidnapped in Acapulco and The Summerville Bombers: A Baseball Mystery.
