Nokia Wins Corporate Responsibility Award In Czech Republic

Nokia today received first prize in the annual Via Bona awards for its efforts in promoting corporate responsibility in the Czech Republic. The basis for the award is Nokia's youth life skills program "Make a Connection - Pripoj se".

Founded in April 2002, the program is run by the Civic Society Development Foundation (NROS) and Nokia in the Czech Republic as part of a global initiative of Nokia and the International Youth Foundation. In the Czech Republic, Make a Connection supports young people aged 16 to 22 to develop and implement volunteer projects in five regions. By participating and affecting positive change in their communities, young people develop their leadership and teamwork skills, enhance their self-confidence and acquire civic values.

The award ceremony took place under the patronage of US Ambassador, Mr Craig Stapleton, at his residence. Nokia senior country management and representatives of the NROS Foundation were present to receive the award.

"We are pleased that Nokia was awarded this prize," said Matti Palomaki, Managing Director, Nokia Czech Republic, s.r.o. "It confirms Nokia's mission to contribute to society more than new and cutting-edge communications technologies. Nokia aims to contribute to positive development of the entire society, which is particularly helped by improving the overall education of the young generation, including life skills."
