Nokia Security Solutions gain international certification for sales to government organizations

Mountain View, Calif. - (October 2, 2003) - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced its IP security solutions, including Nokia's secure Operating System (IPSO) and purpose-built platform running Check Point Software Technologies' (NASDAQ: CHKP) VPN-1 ®/FireWall-1® Next Generation (NG) software, have achieved Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) certification from Common Criteria, the internationally recognized evaluation standard for IT security. Nokia also recently received ITSEC E3 certification from the European Commission's ITSEC (Information Technology Security Evaluation and Certification) scheme.

These international certifications are significant because they allow Nokia to address the needs of government organizations that are increasingly mandating worldwide standards for evaluation of IT security. Sixteen major countries already recognize the Common Criteria certification, and the number of private sector financial and healthcare verticals requiring international certification is also growing.

"Successfully completing the EAL4 and E3 certification processes confirms Nokia's commitment to offering government, enterprise and carrier-class customers products that meet even the most arduous security requirements on an global scale," said Dan MacDonald, vice president of marketing, Nokia. "Government and regulated private sector organizations everywhere can now deploy a wide range of Nokia security appliances, confident that their solution is secure and appropriately certified -  from the operating system all the way up to the application layer."

The EAL4 certification applies to all Nokia security appliances with IPSO running leading Check Point VPN-1 ®/FireWall-1® Next Generation (NG) FeaturePack 2 (FP2) software, ensuring Nokia IP security products meet the stringent requirements of existing and potential global government buyers.

EAL4 certification is the Common Criteria program's highest achievable level by commercial products. ITSEC E3 certification also represents a successful, formal government evaluation of a product's security assurance and is recognized throughout Europe and Australia.

The Nokia EAL4 certification is unique because it includes certification of high availability (HA) -- an industry-unique configuration for EAL4 evaluation utilizing HA-configured Nokia platforms running the Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP). The HA certification for EAL4 is an excellent complement to the Nokia platforms with several built-in hardware HA fail-over capabilities, such as dual power supplies and hard drives, as well as hot-swappable interface cards. The combination of the secure operating system, applications and platforms provides the most reliable security solution available today for a wide variety of customer scenarios.
