EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Shannon Nutt, a software engineer for Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Integrated Systems sector, has received a Women of Color Achievement Award from Career Communications Group Inc. (CCG), a talent management and career development company. The Women of Color Achievement Award honors women and minorities who work for racial, ethnic and gender equality in the workplace, particularly in high-tech and scientific industries.

Nutt accepted the award during the Women of Color Research Sciences and Technology Awards Conference held Sept. 12-13 in Nashville, Tenn. The annual event celebrates the successes of minority women in the fields of mathematics, science, technology and engineering.
"I'm honored to have been selected for this award," said Nutt, who works at Northrop Grumman's Palmdale, Calif., facility as a member of a B-2 stealth bomber software test and integration team. "There are many other women in the company who also deserve to be recognized. I'm fortunate to be working for a company that provides opportunities for women to be promoted to key positions based on merit."
Nutt was selected for the award not only for her professional accomplishments, but also for the contributions she's made in helping other minorities succeed in science and technology careers. She joined Northrop Grumman Information Technology sector employees Cheryl L. Janey, Denise Christopher-Millner and Ora Yvette Rubin in being honored this year.
Steven Bowie, technical manager of B-2 software test and integration team, nominated Nutt for the award. "Shannon's dedication and commitment to results are her best attributes," said Bowie. "She is immensely deserving of this recognition for her outstanding effort, knowledge and enthusiasm."
With a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Washington State University, Nutt landed her first engineering job more than 22 years ago with Rockwell International, where she worked on the Space Shuttle and B1-B bomber programs. In 1991, she joined Northrop Grumman on the B-2 program at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. as a member of the avionics flying test bed crew. In that job, she conducted in-flight tests of the air vehicle's radar and navigational systems. On non-flying days, she worked in the flight test avionics lab, testing and integrating new software with hardware. Nutt also worked with the B-2 low observables and software development teams before being appointed to her current assignment on the B-2 radar modernization program.
