NASHUA, N.H., Oct. 8, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Intertex Data AB today announced that the Xten Network' softphones X-PRO and X-Lite have passed extensive SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) interoperability tests with the Intertex IX66 Internet Gate firewalls and ADSL modems. The interoperability testing cements a partnership between two companies that have proven to be on the front edge of SIP related development -- Xten, the developer of the open standards based softphone X-PRO, and Intertex, the first company to offer a broadband firewall that enables SIP-based IP telephony.
In addition to their own internal testing, Xten and Intertex have passed the scrutiny of real life installations in both the SIPCall service (SIP to PSTN, PSTN to SIP service) in the U.K. and in the Free World Dialup community in the US. The Intertex-Xten partnership offers service providers and end-users ensured product interoperability between Xten's line of SIP-based softphones and Intertex's line of SIP-based broadband firewalls.
SIP has become the accepted and global standard for IP telephony. However, SIP signaling has been unable to traverse most current broadband firewalls and NATs. The Intertex IX66 Internet Gate, a product line of powerful broadband firewalls with optional ADSL modem, gives SIP communication on the LAN global reach over the Internet. . Thus, an Xten user on the LAN can communicate with any other SIP client connected to the Internet. Including a NAT-router, a packet filtering firewall with stateful inspection, and a SIP server, the IX66 is an all-in-one solution for the broadband office or home user. All SIP devices on a LAN behind the IX66 Internet Gate will function universally over the Internet. The SIP-support includes a built-in SIP proxy and SIP registrar dynamically controlling the firewall.
